Honoring David Lynch Through Comedy
Video Visions: Wild at Heart is my tribute to the artist who inspires me most
When I listen to David Lynch speak I hear my own insides. I am deeply in love with the way he thinks, his dedication to finding art in every moment. I am inspired by his nonstop grace, wonder, and HUMOR - something many often forget, or don’t realize, he was brimming with. His persistence to let artistic work weave through you, to let it speak for itself, to let it shift and change in every moment, is much needed and still radical in a time where everyone wants to know WHY or IS IT REAL or WHAT DOES IT MEAN when they engage with art. Every day Lynch and his work reminds me of how powerful it is to keep dreaming in a cruel society that would rather squash us than see us imagine a different world.
With this in mind, my co-producer Ellie and I decided to make this month’s Video Visions theme Wild at Heart as a way of honoring the singular, life altering artistry of our newest angel through absurd humor inspired by his work.
Join us this Thursday 1/23 at 8pm in the microcinema at Videotheque, a real video store in LA, to watch surprise clips from David Lynch films with comedians who have to improvise their entire set off of what they see!
We will ALSO be donating the profits to the least funded GFMs for displaced marginalized Altadena families using this vetted and continually updated directory list. If you can’t make it to the show, we encourage you to redistrubute some of your income to these families.
Help us help the community, celebrate a visionary filmmaker, and laugh to reinvigorate our spirits at Videotheque this Thursday 1/23 at 8pm! Tickets are $10 at the door or through this link!
